This is my first attempt at a blog; I must admit it’s pretty exciting. Feels very official. This is such a nice way to put artwork out there, share ideas, and get feedback. And it is totally the way of the future – I think every art class should require something like this. I am so excited to see everyone else’s from this semester!
My artist’s statement from this semester is: safe is boring and you’re not having fun if you’re not covered in art supplies at the end of it. I had a lot of fun this semester.
As a more general statement, I am interested in biology in art, especially the human figure, and using my imagination to contort these images. I am interested in the symbolism of human bodies and body parts and find that I am especially enamored with blood – the strange life-liquid found in so many other analogous forms. I love visible mark-making in art and am continuing to work on incorporating that into my own work. My art tends to be very introverted; mostly it comes down to expressing the feelings I have about myself and about my society in an effort to articulate my worldview to myself.
Comments are welcome, and referrals to other artists’ work is VERY welcome. Thanks for visiting!
